Foreign ministers finalizing the agenda items and agreements will be signed on the leaders summit in Samarkand on Friday.
The summit is being held at Samarkand, one of the major historical centers of the Turkic and Islamic civilization. Uzbekistan is going to be the first country to host the summit under its new name of Organization of Turkic States.
The decision to rename it to “Organization of Turkic States” was made on November 2021 at the 8th summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States (Turkic Council) in Istanbul.
The event is being organized by President of Uzbekistan Shevket Mirziyoyev.
President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Kazakhstan Kassym Jomert Tokayev and President of Kyrgyzstan Sadir Zhaparov will take part in the summit.
Hungary, which has the status of an observer country, will also participate in the summit represented by Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Another observer country, Turkmenistan, will be represented by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Theme of the summit is: “A new era of Turkic civilization: on the way to common development and prosperity”, the chairmanship of the organization will be transferred from Turkey to Uzbekistan.
In addition, the event will include the election of a new Secretary General of the as the expiration of the three-year term of office of Bagdat Amreyev.
At the event, among other matters, a “Strategic Document” will be approved, which will define the first five years of development steps to be implemented in the Organization’s Roadmap for the next 20 years.
The summit will result in the adoption of the Samarkand Declaration, which provides for important decisions regarding the functioning and future of the organization.
The Turkish President is expected to be awarded the Order of Merit for the Turkic World.
Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan, Vladimir Norov said “In such a complex global environment, the OTC is stepping into a new and more responsible stage in its development. For this reason, it is very important for us to put forward our unity, togetherness, and joint efforts to achieve our strategic goals and tasks within the framework of our mutual cooperation“
Norov mentioned that the new emerging regional environment is providing “very favorable opportunities” for enhancing cooperation and development in the Eurasia region.
Several agreements and official documents of the organization’s upcoming projects in the fields of economy, transport, trade and customs are also to be signed at the event”
