    More than 29,600 people dead from earthquakes in Türkiye

    Twin earthquakes, cantered in Kahramanmaras, affected more than 13 million people in 10 provinces

    At least 29,605 people have died by two strong earthquakes that jolted southern Türkiye earlier this week.
    The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes, centered in the Kahramanmaras province have affected more than 13 million people. The provinces include Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa.
    Other countries in the region, Syria and Lebanon also experienced the strong quakes that have hit Türkiye.
    More than 233,000 search and rescue workers are currently working on ground, as per the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).
    This earthquake is said to be 3 times more powerful than the 1999 Marmara earthquake which also caused disaster in Türkiye.
